Ideal location overlooking Weymouth beach. Staff very helpful. Probably best for cooked food such as lunch as cake selection limited. A small but quirky building which is in need of a bit renovation but this does not detract from their food and drink offerings.
The wait for food was very long - possibly 30 minutes for 5 sandwiches to take out. However, the food was absolutely excellent.Presentation and packing faultless.Sandwiches fully loaded with generous filling came with chips and a small salad.Fab n yummy
We visited this beautiful cafe for breakfast as we are so glad we did. We were a party of 7, nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely view from our table to the beach. The food was outstanding, presented really well and lovely and hot. Absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend. Looking forward to returning on our next visit to Weymouth.
I wanted it to be great, I really did. An independent quirky cafe with a great view out to the beach and the sea.It wasn’t bad, just it wasn’t good either. The service was a bit awkward, rushed, and lacking a warm welcome. Might be being a bit harsh. Maybe. We ordered coffee and a tea. It took a while to arrive. We ordered an omelette and also poached eggs on toast. Again, took a while to come.Plus, I’d eaten half/most of mine by the time the other plate had arrived. My omelette tasted cheap and was luke warm. Looked rather sad on the plate. Not difficult dishes to make and to not have them at the same time was annoying.I got the impression of a cafe where they were struggling to make money and tired of it all. Of course, I could be very wrong. That was my impression. With so much choice of cafes in the immediate area, I’d not go back.*** Updated 26-04-25 Based on the Reply from the Cafe ***I have downgraded the stars because I believe the rating is based on the whole experience, including how a business deals with a review.Overall, I found your reply below disingenuous, possibly sarcastic, and bitter.I could have said, '...eggs were cooked to perfection with lovely runny yolks.' but they were not. The eggs did have runny yolks but that is hardly an unexpected feat of cooking. The eggs were ok. Nothing more and nothing less. After all, we are only discussing cooking poached eggs. I didn't take pictures of those, you are correct, because they were ok. Hardly, something to raise by you.By telling me that my omelette was hot doesn't make it so. It was not hot. It was lukewarm. As the customer, and as the one receiving and eating the dish, my opinion is important. It doesn't work that you tell me it was hot and it was. It was not. Fact.'Lots of people are happy'. Yes, agreed. Plus, 11 reviews in the last 12 months are 1-star, 5 are 2-star and there are 3-star reviews also. Largely, all saying the same thing about late food, poor quality food, and poor service.Your reply is not the way to reply to poor reviews, by telling customers that they are wrong, and with an attitude that comes across so bitter.I have written over 400 reviews, and as my bio says, I use this platform to support restaurants, cafes, and businesses, particularly independents, which is why over 80% of my reviews are 5-star. I only give a poor review when it is justified. This was. Checkout my Rockfish, Oliveto, Lobster Pot, or The View reviews, and many others, from our holiday in Weymouth, as they deserved their 5-star reviews. This was my only 1-star review from reviewing +10 venues whilst we were on holiday in Weymouth.Having looked at the other cafes in the area with a similar number of reviews, I can see why every other cafe has a higher rating. Your rating is 4.4 overall, whereas all the other cafes average about 4.7. This is a clue and should be taken note of. The customers are telling you but you are not listening. We will absolutely not be returning.
We had an awful experience here over Easter weekend. It completely ruined our day. Visited as a family with my autistic daughter. Place was quite busy so we asked what the wait was for the food as we know that my daughter has limited capacity for hunger and waiting. We were told 20-25 mins which is at the upper end of her tolerance window but we felt we could manage. Seating only available upstairs - fine - although perhaps the grotty, damp smelling staircase should have been our warning sign. We ordered straight away and drinks were brought to us within a few mins. We waited patiently for food but after 45 MINUTES my daughter was really struggling to manage. We asked the waitress (the first we had seen since our drinks had arrived 40 mins earlier) when we could expect our food. She went to check and came back to say that there was an issue with the printer and they had never put our order in!! My poor daughter was beside herself and had a full meltdown which was extremely distressing for her and upsetting for us all. We had no choice but to leave (for the sake of other customers if nothing else!) so my husband asked for a refund. And then the icing on the cake was that they tried to short change him! I understand that mistakes happen but something as basic as getting orders to the kitchen needs a more robust system. This might seem like a small thing but for families like ours it derailed our entire day.
So clean, lovely Dorset pot of tea with Oat milk, Jacket potatoes with fillings, suitable for Vegans. Fantastic location with a beautiful view over the bay.
Just popped in for some tea, busy downstairs so offered seat upstairs which did afford a good view to the beach but the room was a bit of a mess with uncleared tables which remained so.Tea was fine although the tea pots/cups were a bit old and random! Lovely staff and food looked pretty good.
Another awesome little cafe! Friendly service, great food, I requested something that wasn't on the menu, a tuna salad and it was delicious. I highly recommend that it is added to the menu. I'm sure it will be a great seller! Is there any reason I've given you one star less is it did take quite a while for our food to be delivered; over half an hour. We understood you were busy and normally that wouldn't be a problem but we only had 45 minutes lunch break so we were late back sadly. But this wouldn't deter me from going again and I highly recommend it!
Wow I had a great experience at this lovley place today.i ordered the eggs Benedict and it tasted and looked amazing.ive never had such a well cooked tasty breakfast.the staff were very pleasant and welcoming I can't wait to try some thing else on the menu.thankyou to you all you should be proud🌈
Overlooking Weymouth beach.staff were friendly and accommodating. We had their brunch. Which was plentiful and a breakfast bap. All the eggs were cooked to perfection. All the food was served hot and freshly cooked.
Very friendly service and excellent quality of food worthy of another vist when we are back in Weymouth.
This is a fabulous shabby chic cafe. Very dog friendly. The staff are really helpful and chatty. The CHILLI is the BEST you will ever taste! I really enjoyed my veg ragout with spaghetti too, very tasty. Definitely returning whenever I’m in Weymouth. Might even come back just to eat here again ☺️
There are many tea shops in Weymouth to choose from and this is just another one. Nothing particularly stands out about it. The coffee was okay and the cake portions were a little bit small but maybe I was being optimistic. Overall, it's as good as anywhere else along the sea front.
Lovely friendly place to have lunch. Busy but that's a good sign Lovely staff
Popped in for a coffee while in Weymouth for the day.Was greeted with ‘we have stopped serving breakfast’ before we had even said anything. We just wanted a coffee. Was told to take a seat and then order. Staff were very busy and made us feel like we shouldn’t be there. Will not be back!
Lovely location with views of the beach and sea.Staff are very friendly and attentive. We took advantage of the £5 offer for any hot drinks and any dessert. The coffee was lovely as were the scones and red velvet.
Popped in for coffee's and snacks. Friendly staff. Decor needs some attention. Nice menu. Nice food.
the staff were so pretty and nice, the food was DELICIOUS like i cannot get over how amazing the salmon salad was. genuinely considering moving to weymouth just so this can become my regular cafe spot. also they gave us free drinks because the food took a little longer than expected - but only because it was so busy full of satisfied customers!
Thoroughly enjoyed the food and service was good and friendly, however the food took a long time coming
On arrival we were told there was a wait on food as they were so busy. This wasn't a problem and the waiting staff were very friendly and clear about this. We ordered drinks first and were told we had to wait to order food. My partner had a mango smoothie which must have been 99% water as it was very bland and thin. The only clue it had mango in it was the colour. When we eventually got our crab sandwiches, we were presented with minimal amounts of grainy crab between the cheapest white bread you could imagine. Definitely shouldn't have taken over 50 minutes to prepare (after waiting 15 minutes to even put the order through). It's not difficult to make a good sandwich and at £13 I would have expected at least some good quality bread. Toilet facilities also weren't great and the table and menu were both sticky.
Lovely fresh home cooked food served with a smile and right near the wonderful seafront. My son's chicken nuggets in particular; were fresh chicken breast in a homemade breadcrumb and we're lovely. Very inexpensive considering the location too. Highly recommend 👌
Just arrived back from a overnight stay in a one bedroom apartment above the Good life cafe very spacious and views are amazing from the apartment. With welcoming hosts ( Karl & Alex )It's in a great position to local shops etc.... would definitely go back for longer x .... ps... the chocolate cake was delicious x
The worst prawn sandwich I have ever encountered!! And the crab sandwich ok but not fresh and both served in cheep slices of ready sliced bread!! Chips not even worth talking about! Nearly £13 a sandwich!!
Delicious cream tea best I've had even from Cornwall at Padstow sorry not picture I ate it before I realised 😂
Our waiting time’s for food is longer than normal. Breakfast was covered in black pepper. How ever the cafe did rectify by doing the Full English again, it is not stated on menus. They don’t do semi-skimmed milk only skimmed or full fat. However I am lactose tolerant so I can have skimmed but prefer Semi-Skimmed I personally wouldn’t return to this restaurant again. It might be worth a visit to other people. Just keep in mind to ask without seasoning on food. Price wise the portion was just right not too expensive.
Excellent food. Good value and right on the front with amazing view. Bit of a wait but worth it - all freshly prepared.
Fried eggs with egg whites slightly set, ketchup and mayonnaise cooked on the window in the sun, tea served 1 hour before breakfast - cold with breakfast, black pudding burnt, pieces served after drawing attention, an embarrassment, I definitely do not recommend this bistro
Such an excellent place. The location, food, service and menu are all excellent. Highly recommended.
Newly re-opened this spring, had a lovely Sunday roast, friendly service and nice view over the beach. Would recommend.
Had a wonderful dinner at the Good Life cafe bistro. Carl and his son Chris are superb chefs what a find this gem of a place is!
Didn't even bother to order anything. Popped in to get a quick bite. We're not greeted or even acknowledged by the staff. Zero atmosphere. After waiting a while we decided not to bother.
Recently reopened after new management took over, we popped in for lunch. The food was not great, the salad had no dressing and was very dry, the sandwiches were basic and the panini was not grilled or warm. The chips were nice though, as was the apple juice. It was served reasonably quickly, we would have been happy to wait a little longer for higher quality food though. The real issue is that being a cash only business (which was prominently sign posted at the front of the shop), we worked out that we had enough money to pay for what we ordered. When we received our bill however, a £3.40 gratuity had been added to it, meaning we needed to use an ATM to pay. There is no mention of this on the menus anywhere. When I raised this (after we had paid) the server was apologetic, saying that the menus should be replaced. But she also told me that the gratuity can be taken off. This is the wrong attitude, it should not be added. A gratuity is optional, based on the quality of the food and service. The customer decides what, if any, tip should be given. To add it on and then only reply that it can be taken off ONCE it is questioned is just not on.We will not be returning, at least for a good while. Maybe in a few months these points will have been addressed, otherwise two regular customers have moved on to greener pastures.
Visited this cafe two years ago and had a bad experience that I still remember. Just because we had three people and only ordered two drinks we got pressured by the staff.Edit: I wrote this review retrospectively when visiting another cafe that’s near seashore when I was travelling, where I got treated with respect as customers. And it just made me think that customer service could be good even at a sought after location. Being at a popular location doesn’t justify bad services.
What a wonderful cafe. We had the fabulous vegan breakfast. The food was delicious, service was superb and the atmosphere is lovely too, all with a great view of Weymouth. Thank you, we will be back.
Lovely lunch today at the good life cafe. All day breakfast for the hubby, plenty of it and v tasty. I had scrambled egg on granary toast. Lovely bread and plenty of egg and cooked just how I like it. All staff v welcoming whenever we pop in 👍🏻. Highly recommend a pit stop here 😊😋
The cafe is so cozy makes you feel at home, away from home. Service is so fast and the crew are friendly, welcoming each guest very warmly. The food is of top quality and surely made fresh. Overlooking the beach while having breakfast is the most serene breakfast one could ever have.
Great place; burger was one of the best I've had. Great service and they even did a surprise slice of cake for my grandsons birthday.
We've been visiting this place for years in it's previous incarnations (but not since Covid) and the new owners have definitely done this place proud. Very friendly and quick service, delicious coffee and food, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available, including milk alternatives and it's dog friendly. Parking is on street nearby & it has good views across to the beach. It should definitely be on your list to try!
The Good Life Cafe looks out onto Weymouth beach and is a prime position for a snack. It has wooden floors and panelling and has something of a past times charm. My wife had tea and a second, and I had a fish finger sandwich and coffee. The fish finger sandwich was very good.We both enjoyed our meals.
